Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges dam, located in the Yangtze River Basin, China. It is currently the largest dam in the world surpassing the ItapĂșa on the border between Brazil and Paraguay.


The dam measures 2,309 meters long and 185 in height, stands imposingly in one of the most beautiful scenery in China, and includes a lock can handling ships up to 3,000 tons.
The construction of the dam began in 1996 and was estimated to last for 19 years. In 2003 he managed to open the river and began operating the first generators. In the original plans this single dam would have the capacity to provide 10% of electricity demand China.
